The MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Yuriy Pavlenko said this during a joint briefing with the veterans of the law enforcement bodies in the Verkhovna Rada. Colonels in retirement who represent the Zhytomyr region, came to parliament to inform the leadership of the state and MPs about the need to recalculate pensions for veterans of power structures.
The last time the recalculation of pensions for military pensioners and law enforcement pensioners took place in 2012. Therefore, now, for example, a retired colonel who has served 35 years and has worked for 15 years after being fired from the armed forces can count only on 4,000 UAH of pension.
The decision to create an initiative group to defend the rights of former security forces was made during the meeting of the leader of the OPPOSITION BLOC Yuriy Boyko, MP, Chairman of the Zhytomyr Regional Organization of the OPPOSITION BLOC Yuriy Pavlenko with representatives of this category of pensioners in Korosten.
The initiative group included the Chairman of the Zhytomyr Regional Organization of Veterans Oleksandr Protavtnikov, the Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction in the Zhytomyr Regional Council, the former serviceman Anatoliy Melashenko, the pensioners of the armed forces and former law enforcement officers from the whole region.
During the briefing, Yuriy Pavlenko stressed that the state in the person of the current government received extremely unfair treatment of veterans of the armed forces and veterans of law enforcement agencies. "For many years, they do not count pensions. Unfortunately, the State Budget-2018 does not contain the necessary funds. OPPOSITION BLOC requires an immediate recalculation of pensions to military pensioners and law enforcement pensioners. This injustice should be corrected," the parliamentarian emphasized.
The Chairman of the Zhytomyr Regional Organization of Veterans, Oleksandr Zaschitnikov, read out an address by veterans and pensioners of law enforcement agencies to the President of Ukraine, the government and deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.
He noted that in late November and early December of this year, veterans of power structures tried to meet with the prime minister and the president. "Neither the head of the government, nor the president has expressed a desire to meet with veterans, they have closed from the people cordons of the national guard," the appeal says.
"When approving the budget for 2018 to raise pensions for veterans of law enforcement agencies does not have any funds. This state of affairs continues to leave veterans of the power structures behind the poverty line. People who have dedicated their entire life to the service of the Motherland are now forced to beg, just barely making ends meet.
If our demands are not heard, we reserve the right to take more resolute actions within the framework of the Constitution and Laws of Ukraine.
For the last time we demand that the government and MPs to review the State Budget-2018 and make changes taking into account the payment of timely and modernized pensions for veterans of power structures.
There is not a single country in the world where a soldier of the first year of service receives cash 3-4 times more than a reserve colonel who served the Motherland 25-30 years. It's a shame!" the statement said.
Oleksandr Zaschitnikov showed a certificate of calculating the pension of a lieutenant colonel, who served 25 years and reached the commander of the brigade. "The total amount is 2766 UAH, for the rank – 130 UAH. In no country in the world is there such a shame and such an attitude toward those who gave their lives to the service of the Motherland. The question is to those who are serving now – what will be tomorrow?" Oleksandr Zaschitnikov said.
"We demand to provide a bonus for military pensioners who work after the service in the army and solve the issue of providing housing for former soldiers," retired colonel Viktor Rafalskyi said.
In turn, Anatoliy Melashenko noted that for the past four years, each state budget has lowered the living standards of military pensioners. "The last grant for pensioners of the armed forces was five years ago. We demand that the president, government and parliament turn to face this problem and contribute an item to the budget for recalculating and increasing pensions for military pensioners and law enforcement veterans," he said.
