The MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Yuriy Pavlenko stated this in the program “Ranok” on the NewsOne TV Channel.
The position of the OPPOSITION BLOC is clear and unchanged, and consists in ensuring that the Central Election Commission (CEC) is formed in accordance with Ukraine’s international obligations and in parliamentary traditions. The Central Election Commission should be represented by all factions of the Verkhovna Rada. This will not allow falsifications and ensure fair democratic elections, the nearest of which will be held next year.
“Unfortunately, we do not see the desire of the authorities to create an honest and independent Central Election Commission. But the desire of the authorities to stay in their seats at any cost is clearly expressed. In achieving its goal, the president and his faction in the parliament can resort to any actions, including falsification of the elections,” the opposition politician said.
A simple technical issue of the CEC, Yuriy Pavlenko believes, could have been resolved by a democratically formed representation of the composition of the election commission for a long time. However, the president, forming the list of candidates to the CEC, is guided solely by his own interests, ignoring even the recommendations of the Venice Commission and PACE.
“The OPPOSITION BLOC has not changed its position and will not agree to any behind-the-scenes arrangement with the authorities. Manipulation, including the increase in the number of members of the CEC, is also excluded. We demand that the CEC be formed in such a way as to ensure fair, open, democratic elections. And also, we insist on including in the commission of two candidates submitted by us. Our goal is to protect the right of people to choose their own power and the president,” Yuriy Pavlenko summarized.
