This was stated by the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction Yuriy Boyko in the corridors of the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, July 12.
The politician recalled that the OPPOSITION BLOC had sent the president of Ukraine a representation on two candidates from the faction to the CEC. “These are experienced lawyers, and we expect the president will nominate these two candidates instead of his candidate and candidate from the People’s Front. If this happens and the parliament votes for the list of candidates, including our two candidates, we will support it. We believe that this will be a return to the honest way of forming the CEC,” the Co-Chairman of the opposition faction said.
Commenting on the proposal of members of the BPP faction to include representatives of the OPPOSITION BLOC into the new composition of the CEC, Yuriy Boyko noted that any other options would indicate the preparation to the falsification of elections by the authorities.
“They realized that they had come to a standstill that parliament could not vote for the creation of an artificial, pocket-sized CEC, which is a path to the falsification. In this way, there is a distrust of the whole society towards the upcoming elections. Apparently, there is an understanding of this. I think that’s good. If it is voted for the fair, formed by quota principle composition of the Central Election Commission, this will serve the interests of Ukraine,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
Yuriy Boyko also noted that the faction does not need “feeds” from the pro-government majority. “We do not need “handouts”, we need a clear transparent system. The president must nominate candidates to the parliament in the composition of the Central Election Commission on the basis of the quota principle. We will never support any hide-and-seek agreements that are in conflict with the interests of Ukrainian citizens and open the way to falsification,” the Co-Chairman of the party stressed.
Note that the OPPOSITION BLOC proposed to include two experienced lawyers Serhiy Rumpa and Grigoriy Moskalenko in the CEC.
On April 26, 2016, the faction sent a representation to the president with a list of candidates received, which was ignored. In January 2018, the OPPOSITION BLOC repeatedly sent a letter with a list of candidates. The faction also requires the parliament to comply with the PACE resolution of January 18, 2018 regarding the proportional representation of all factions of the parliament in the new composition of the Central Election Commission.
