At the request of parliamentary journalists, the Co-chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction Yuriy Boyko commented on the recommendation of the Verkhovna Rada Standing Committee to limit access to media representatives to the corridors of the parliament.
According to Yuriy Boyko, restrictions on press freedom are unacceptable. “Journalists have the right to be present in the corridors of the parliament, since their work is precisely in conveying the MPs’ position to the society. For this, conditions must be created. Of course, there are many fake news. MPs are sometimes outraged of the publications of journalists. However, this is not a reason to restrict their access to the corridors of the Verkhovna Rada,” the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC emphasized.
According to Yuriy Boyko, any restrictions are a way to nowhere. “For four consecutive years, the current authorities have been steadily moving towards the creation of a totalitarian state. Under the guise of protecting national interests, democracy is collapsing, colossal pressure on journalists and freedom of speech continues. Censorship, the introduction of language quotas on television, the banning of social networks, the destruction of any manifestations of dissent, bordering on paranoia, - all this has turned into everyday life. It came to the point that recently they wanted to ban viewing of the world football championship in Ukraine,” the MP noted.
Yuriy Boyko added that the OPPOSITION BLOC always opposed any restrictions on the rights and freedoms of citizens. “After our victory in the elections, Ukraine will be a democratic state, we will return the people rights and freedoms, selected by this authorities,” the Co-chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction Yuriy Boyko concluded.
