This was stated by the First Deputy Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE, MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Yulia Lovochkina in the corridors of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on Wednesday, October 11.
“Let’s be frank. I consider, this law was adopted to restrict the right for education of Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine. However, in connection with the adoption of the law, all the national minorities turned out to be in a difficult situation,” Yulia Lovochkina noted.
According to her, the Law “On Education” should be amended accordingly.
“It is obvious that our colleagues from neighboring countries will continue to exert pressure until this law is changed,” Yulia Lovochkina said.
The politician also commented on the speech of the President of Ukraine at the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. “The President insists on the necessity of Ukrainianization of education in schools and universities. Actually, this contradicts the position of our European colleagues who consider this law discriminatory against persons belonging to national minorities, except for persons belonging to indigenous peoples. Therefore, I expect, that tomorrow during the urgent debate on Ukraine this law will be subjected to significant criticism and a corresponding resolution will be adopted,” Yulia Lovochkina concluded.
