In order to prevent the creation of conditions for falsification of the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, the OPPOSITION BLOC faction sent a letter to the ambassadors of democratic countries.
On November 1, 2018, by its decision, the Central Election Commission postponed the elections in the two united territorial communities of Donetsk Oblast – Kryvyi Rih and Shakhovska, scheduled on December 23, 2018.
“The CEC explained its position by saying that on October 18 it received a letter from the Donetsk Regional State Administration on the impossibility of ensuring adequate security of citizens due to Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and avoiding the terrorist threat during the first local elections in two sites: Kryvyi Rih and Shakhivsky rural united territorial communities of Dobropolsky district, Donetsk Oblast.
Thus, the residents of six villages of the East of Ukraine (Shakhmatne, Nikanorivka and Novotoretska villages are included in the Shahivsky united territorial community; Kryvorizhzhia, Dobropillya and Shilivka villages are included in the Kryvyi Rih united territorial community), are excluded from the electoral process by the decision of the authorities, which is undoubtedly a dangerous precedent”, noted in the letter.
Oppositionists are convinced in this way, the authorities are working out their beneficial mechanism for organizing the electoral process in the future, namely during the presidential elections of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2019: the territories, where citizens support opposition political forces, will be deprived of the right to vote under the guise of the impossibility of ensuring adequate security of citizens, preventing a terrorist threat.
“Such an approach, as well as the absence of representatives of the Political Party “OPPOSITION BLOC” in the newly-formed updated composition of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, is absolutely unacceptable and indicates the unwillingness of the authorities to ensure free, open, transparent and fair elections in Ukraine” , - emphasized in circulation.
“The reluctance of the authorities to approve the new Electoral Code of Ukraine also responds to the stated goal. Voted in the first reading in November 2017, the draft law No 3112-1 is still under consideration in the profile committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. In addition, there are the attempts to exclude from the electoral process a whole stratum of Ukrainian citizens – internally displaced persons, the number of which according to the data of the Ministry of Social Policy Ukraine as of August 2018 is 1 516 237 people”, the authors of the letter accentuate.
“The OPPOSITION BLOC” faction protests against the technologies to ensure the desired result in the elections of the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine used by the authorities and will continue to fight for compliance with the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine in ensuring the electoral process in Ukraine, observance of the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens, for the democratic future of Ukraine.
We express the hope that this will be brought to the leadership of your state, will receive proper assessment and will be the subject of discussion during Your meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities”, the letter says.
