This was stated by MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Vadim Novinsky in the corridors of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, September 19.
“It is very important for Ukraine to have independent courts - from the president, the prosecutor’s office, the coalition and the opposition. It is important the independent judiciary power to be formed. However, the judicial reform will make the courts more dependent from the president. This in any case should not be allowed,” Vadim Novinsky said.
According to him, Friday’s trial of Oleksandr Lavrynovych is an example of how Ukrainian judges will act in case of adoption of judicial reform.
“Last Friday, by decision of the court, Oleksandr Lavrynovych was sentenced to jail for two months. All who attended the meeting saw that the prosecutor’s office had virtually no arguments, lawyers broke all the charges. However, the court eventually made a decision under the pressure of the Presidential Administration. If we want such cases to become the norm, this law must be adopted. Then the courts will be completely dependent from the presidential vertical of power,” Vadim Novinsky underlined.
