The termination of the friendship, cooperation and partnership agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation will be an additional obstacle to the implementation of the Minsk Agreements. This was stated by the MP, Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC parliamentary faction Vadym Novynskyi in the corridors of the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, December 6.
According to him, the parliamentary vote on the termination of the treaty with the Russian Federation is a purely technical decision. ‘Every ten years the contract must be renewed. If any of the parties is not going to do this, then it should warn the other party about this in half a year. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine notified the Russian side about it six months ago. Therefore, now in the Verkhovna Rada, there is a purely technical vote. But, unfortunately, in the walls of parliament again is a very long political discussion on this issue, and the passions arise again,” the opposition politician said.
According to Vadym Novynskyi, the termination of the Treaty on Friendship with the Russian Federation is a mistake of power. “There are a lot of points in this treaty that are useful and necessary for Ukraine, for example, the point on the delineation of borders. Now there are legal doubts, how it will happen next,” the Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC parliamentary faction said.
Vadym Novynskyi also reminded that about three million Ukrainians are on the earnings in the Russian Federation. “According to the treaty, each party guarantees the protection of the rights of citizens in the territory of another country. When the treaty is denounced, Ukrainians in Russia may have difficulties in protecting their rights,” the MP said.
In addition, according to the opposition policy, the termination of the treaty with the Russian Federation will be an additional obstacle to the implementation of the Minsk Agreements. “If we strive for peace, we need to look for a compromise. Well, if we continue the war – the parliament increases the degree of confrontation. This is very dangerous. Sooner or later, it will be necessary to seek a compromise with Russia,” Vadym Novynskyi stressed.
