This was stated by the MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Vadym Novynskyi on the TV channel “Ukraine”, commenting on the decisions of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
According to the politician, the decisions of the Synod are dictated solely by political motives.
“For the next 100-200 years, there can be no talk of any unity of Orthodoxy of Ukraine. There are exclusively political motives of both the Ukrainian side and the Ecumenical Patriarch. It is all the same if Great Britain would cancel the independence of India,” the oppositionist said.
Vadym Novynskyi noted that the Ecumenical Patriarchate has no right to remove the anathema from Filaret.
“According to church laws, only the church that imposed it has the right remove the anathema. Neither Patriarch Bartholomew, nor any other patriarchs can repeal these laws. Only the Ecumenical Council can repeal or change church laws. What has happened is the same if the Pechersk court would cancel the decision of the American court. The terrible sin of the split lies on Philaret. This sin can be washed off only by penance of this person,” the MP said.
In addition, according to Vadym Novynskyi, the statute of limitations on disputes regarding the abolition of the charter of accession of the Kiev metropolis to the Russian church from 1686 expired 300 years ago.
“According to the same church laws, the limitation period for disputes over the borders of the metropolis, regarding how the church joined and for what reasons, is 30 years. 330 years have passed. During this time, much has changed. Kyiv metropolis, which was in the borders, is 1/3 of the current territory of Ukraine. That time there was neither Odesa, nor Kherson, or Mykolaiv, and Crimean, Donetsk, Kharkiv dioceses in the composition of the metropolis. What is it necessary to do with it?” Vadym Novynskyi noted.
According to the opposition politician, the decisions of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate are fraught with a great church schism in the Orthodox world.
