Church split in Ukraine occurred with the direct participation of the country’s leadership. This was stated by MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Vadim Novinsky in the author’s program of Dmitriy Gordon on the TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
“The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is canonical. It is not the conductor of the ideas of the “Russian world”, it is the vehicle of the ideas of Christ, and the place where the church should act is the heart of a person. We do not have the Moscow Patriarchate - there is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (hereinafter UOC), the canonical church of the Ukrainian people, this is a fact,” the oppositionist stressed.
Vadim Novinsky recalled that the current representatives of UOC of Kyiv Patriarchate earlier had been a part of the canonical church, and then went into schism and created their own church.
“In my deep conviction, UOC is a political organization with a religious name, perhaps, a certain subdivision of the Presidential Administration. When it was created, a full-fledged policy worked. With the direct participation of the leaders of Ukraine, there was a split,” the MP noted.
According to the politician, the church split is a terrible tragedy for Ukraine. “What we are currently experiencing is the same fratricidal war in the east of Ukraine – these are the consequences of the split that occurred in 1992. This problem, of course, should be solved, it is necessary to overcome the split, but on the basis of church traditions and church laws. In the state, we call to live according to the Constitution. The church has its own Constitution and its laws, it has been living under these laws for 2 thousand years, they are commanded by God ... Therefore, according to these laws, the overcoming of the split must occur in no other way. Those who have gone into schism, must repent and return to the bosom of the mother church,” the oppositionist emphasized.
