This statement was made by the MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Oleksandr Dolzhenkov from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.
In particular, he noted that on November 7, 2018, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine issued an unjust decision. “The OPPOSITION BLOC with colleagues from other factions, after the adoption of the law on preventing a financial catastrophe by the deputies from the pro-government coalition, and in fact a law that simply repeals the social benefits guaranteed by the state and enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine, appealed to the Constitutional Court. We wanted to restore justice, stop the unlawful actions of the current government and repeal antisocial provisions relating, in particular, to state assistance in giving birth to a child and in caring for a child upon reaching the age of three,” Dolzhenkov noted.
However, on November 7, the Constitutional Court adopted the decision, in which it refused to satisfy this constitutional submission, arguing that no guarantees, no legal actions were violated. “The fact is that, according to Article 22 of the Constitution of Ukraine, constitutional rights and freedoms defined by the Constitution are not exhaustive and cannot be abolished. When new laws are adopted and changes are made to existing laws, the content and scope of constitutional rights and freedoms are not restricted. The Constitutional Court indicates that, allegedly, Article 46 of the Constitution of Ukraine does not provide for such a type of social protection as state security for the birth of a child and social benefits when the child reaches 3 years of age. We consider this a blasphemy and cynical decision. This is a glaring case and spitting in the face of the Ukrainian people. This is a vivid testimony of how the current authorities care about the interests of ordinary Ukrainian citizens, since the Constitutional Court is the personification of this power,” the MP said.
According to the MP, when there is a change of power, and the OPPOSITION BLOC wins, decisions will be made that will return social standards to the 2013 level. “Also, the OPPOSITION BLOC faction is ready to vote with its full membership on the transfer to the relevant Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of the draft resolution on the introduction of a moratorium on the increase in prices for natural gas,” he said.
Oleksandr Dolzhenkov urged parliamentarians “to be not populists, but to take real steps aimed at the real protection of the interests of citizens.”
