Statement of the party
The OPPOSITION BLOC requires vetoing the law on education adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. Its norms on the prohibition of education in the languages of ethnic minorities not only violate the basic rights of Ukrainian citizens, but also threaten the country’s destruction. We demand a review of the law, removing from it provisions that lead to increased tension in society.
The Constitution of Ukraine guarantees the free development of Russian and other languages of national minorities. However, languages that do not have a full-fledged education cannot develop freely. The Constitution of Ukraine prohibits discrimination on national and other grounds. Due to the adoption of the law on education, millions of our citizens will be discriminated against in the right to study and teach their children in their native language.
The right of national minorities to education in their native language is the norm of the European Charter for Regional Languages and Languages of National Minorities, ratified by the Ukrainian Parliament. Failure to fulfill obligations to the European Union is a denial of the course towards European integration, which the key president called a keynote address to the Verkhovna Rada.
The Hungarian and Romanian communities have already protested against the adoption of the law on education. They were supported by the government of Hungary and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The ban on education in the native language is negatively perceived in the Russian-speaking regions. Not paying attention to this means neglecting threats to the integrity of the country.
Ukraine is a multinational state, and its policy should be based on the preservation and development of the languages of all nationalities. The termination of the policy of violent Ukrainization is in the interests of all who stand for the preservation of a single country.
