In Dnipro, people who live in houses that did not create condominiums once again went out to protest against the rent that the Mayor Filatov raised in December 2017 in the interests of the controlling companies controlled by him.
"People have nothing to live on, and the Mayor Filatov forces them to give the last penny for a rent. To support the townspeople, the OPPOSITION BLOC in Dnipro starts collecting signatures within the framework of the Action "Let's Say "NO!" to predatory tariffs," Natalia Nacharyan, the Head of the OPPOSITION BLOC in the Dnipro City Council said.
Participants in the rally are indignant, they say, even in Kyiv, rent is not as high as in Dnipro. "They sent us bills of 6.7 UAH/sq. m. This is in houses that have not been repaired. Moreover, in Kyiv, on Khreshchatyk Street, in a new building people pay 6.05 UAH/sq. m.", Henadiy Shmelin said.
More than a hundred protesters from the city council signed an appeal to the mayor of Dnipro with a demand to cancel the decision of the executive committee of the city council, which residents imposed management companies with "draconian" tariffs. Also, among the requirements for the city government is to hold a new open competition for management companies, explain to people what services they have to pay.
"According to the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing, the rent in Dnipro is one of the highest among the cities of Ukraine. The discontent with the power, which strangles people with excessive tariffs, has already developed into open protests. Residents of Dnipro have prepared appeals to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Regional Development," Natalia Nacharyan said.
The oppositionist added that Oleksandr Vilkul's team supports people, fights at all levels – from parliament to district councils, for tariff cuts. "Despite the fact that the current government ignores people, blocks the decisions of the opposition, we will continue to use all legitimate mechanisms to protect people, to cancel unfair tariffs," Nacharyan said.
Earlier, on March 1, with the same demands, the Dnipro people gathered to block Slobozhanskyi Avenue.
Recall, at the session of the Dnipro City Council on February 21, 2018, the OPPOSITION BLOC faction demanded a decision to reduce the rent as a priority. However, the deputies of the majority of the faction "Za Zhyttia", "Ukrop" and "Nash Krai" almost completely voted down to continue to force residents to pay at tariffs that Filatov overestimated 3 times in the interests of controlled management companies.
January 31, 2018 OPPOSITION BLOC brought to the session of the Dnipro City Council decision to cancel the increase in rent for apartment buildings. Despite the fact that the relevant project was published on the website, the Mayor Filatov did not put it on the agenda of the session.
