The OPPOSITION BLOC faction of the Kyiv regional council at an extraordinary session made a statement to the Verkhovna Rada on the abolition of the parliamentary resolution of October 4, 2018 “On approval of proposals for the use of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)”. This decree of the Verkhovna Rada concerns sanctions against “112 Ukraine” and “NewsOne” TV channels.
The statement says that the resolution caused a wide public response and negative reaction of citizens, politicians, organizations in Ukraine and abroad.
“This is an unprecedented case in the history of independent Ukraine, which can negatively affect the image of our state in the international political arena, because, in fact, it shows signs of censorship and casts doubt the freedom of the media and freedom of speech in Ukraine declared by law,” the statement reads.
However, the deputies of the Kiev regional council could not make this decision - 31 deputies registered at that time voted for it, which was less than the number of votes needed to make a decision. This decision was not supported by the BPP faction, part of the “Samopomich” faction and the “Svoboda” faction.
