"The celebration of the Victory Day on May 9 throughout Ukraine clearly demonstrated - today in our state millions of people are against the policy of power aimed at distorting our glorious history. The absolute majority of people do not agree with the fact that Ukraine is artificially trying to turn into a radical nationalist enclave by the thoughtless renaming of cities, streets and even entire regions," Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction in the parliament Oleksandr Vilkul said this, speaking from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.
He noted that people are against vandalism in respect of monuments to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, attempts of the authorities to cancel the holidays and ban films and books. "Humanitarian issues - such as questions of history, religion, interethnic relations, language issues - are even more sensitive and painful than social and economic ones. Speculation on these issues can split the society more than anything else," the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction said.
"I talk a lot with people in different areas. People demand that Mr. Viatrovych be immediately removed from the formation of the policy of national memory, which he turned into a scandal not only inside the country, but even with our European neighbors. For four years, this person carefully tries to brainwash Ukrainian citizens and rewrite history," Oleksandr Vilkul said.
He noted that against the nationalistic and collaborative propaganda of Viatrovych were made even in the US - a corresponding letter with the condemnation of Viatrovych was signed by members of the Congress.
"Another obscurantism, about which society learned recently - is the consul of Ukraine in Hamburg, Vasyl Marushynets, who did not hide his Nazi and anti-Semitic views. Now he is suspended from his duties, but not at all the fact that this person will be released in disgrace and will not remain working in power," Oleksandr Vilkul said.
The MP noted that the time will come and his "exploits", as well as the affairs of Viatrovych, law enforcement agencies will be engaged. "Today I propose and require the parliament to give a political assessment of Viatrovych's activities, sending him to resign," the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC said.
Earlier, he wrote on his Facebook page that the decision to instruct the Cabinet to dismiss Viatrovych from the post of director of the Institute of National Memory was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. "People can not be deceived and history can not be rewritten! Millions of people who across the country came out on May 9, showed their true attitude towards Viatrovych, Marushynets and their destructive actions. These gentlemen are ideological descendants of those who lost in the Great Patriotic War, and we are the descendants of the victors. And so the victory will be ours!"- Oleksandr Vilkul said.
Recall that despite attempts by the authorities and radicals to intimidate people in Ukraine, millions of people went out to lay flowers at the memorials of these heroes and celebrate Victory Day. Including in Dnipro, tens of thousands of residents went to the Peace March in the name of peace and unity of Ukraine.
