Speaking at the Verkhovna Rada, the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction in the parliament, Oleksandr Vilkul, said, "On January 1, 2018, a moratorium on the sale of land will expire and it is obvious that the authorities have repeatedly spoken about this – they want to sell the last thing that people and the country have left.
At a minimum, the moratorium should be extended, and we will vote for all draft laws, and for a moratorium as well.
But we offer a more effective model that will put an end to the manipulations around the sale of land: to amend the Land Code and to prohibit the sale of land. We have prepared the corresponding draft law.
After that, we propose to go to the all-Ukrainian referendum, and let the people of Ukraine decide what to do with the land.
Let the government honestly come out and say that it wants to sell the land, and we – the opposition –will honestly go out and say: we are against the sale of land.
I am sure that people will support us, and we will not continue to prolong these moratoriums every year, but we will put an end to this issue forever. In addition, the Ukrainian land will belong to the people, and Ukrainian villagers will not become serfs on their land."
Recall, on Tuesday, December 5, pro-government deputies at the meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Policy and Land Relations, despite protests from the opposition, decided to pass this Thursday, December 7, a draft law to extend the ban on the sale of agricultural land for one year.
