Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction in the parliament, Oleksandr Vilkul, demanded that the Verkhovna Rada stop political squabbling and begin to pass laws aimed at restoring peace and economy. On his Facebook page he wrote: "We need to create conditions for the work of enterprises. Only this will give a real increase in salaries and pensions. And the printing press, which is already smoking, must be stopped! The increase in the money supply, not provided by real production, has already led to the fact that in 2017 inflation was 14%. The rise in prices is off scale."
The rise in prices in Ukraine in 2017 is higher than the level of all countries in Europe and the CIS. According to the World Bank, Ukraine's GDP per capita has fallen by 2 times since 2013 and amounts to about 2 thousand US dollars, which is comparable to that of the poorest countries on the planet. International rating agency Moody's believes that Ukraine's record low GDP will remain the same in 2018. In the International rating of Bloomberg's Misery Index, which shows the level of poverty and deprivation of countries, Ukraine fell into the top ten of the poorest countries.
"Since 01.01.2018 in Ukraine, the subsistence minimum is only 1700 UAH/month. At the rate of 28 it's $ 2/day! At the same time, the UN defines the poverty threshold at $ 5/day," the opposition leader said.
Vilkul noted that only support of industry and economy will ensure real, and not inflationary growth of salaries and pensions. And now even small increases in payments are eaten up by rising prices and tariffs.
OPPOSITION BLOC has submitted to parliament appropriate draft laws on support of industry and reduction of tariffs, but the authorities have been blocking their adoption for the third year already.
