From the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction in the parliament, Oleksandr Vilkul toughly opposed the preparation by the authorities of large-scale falsifications of the elections.
"We must adopt a new election law and create a high-quality Central Election Commission (CEC). After all, the CEC, which has no credibility, is the direct path to the non-recognition of elections by either Ukrainian society or the international community. This is the way to usurp power and total isolation. And we can change the way of the country so that people live in a human way, and not in impoverishment," Oleksandr Vilkul addressed to all opponents of such actions of the current government.
He noted that the parliament still has the opportunity to stop large-scale falsification of the presidential and parliamentary elections. "Falsification is the tool that pro-power parties expect, who finally lose respect for people and have minimum ratings," the MP said.
The opposition politician called the main ways of manipulation, which the authorities can use in the upcoming elections. "The first is manipulation of the number of voters. According to the official website of the State Statistics Committee, the population of Ukraine is more than 42 million people. However, according to various estimates, today we have a maximum of 28 million. The real number can be established during the All-Ukrainian Population Census, which was due in 2017, but the government moved it to the post-election 2020. Do you understand what the authorities will do, having a difference of the declared and actual population of about 10 million people?
At the same time, a new election law is being blocked, so that next year half of the deputies will again be elected with the help of buckwheat and administrative resources. Due to these people, the authorities want to do something to somehow fill their factions," Oleksandr Vilkul said.
The third factor in the manipulation of the opposition was the formation of the Central Election Commission, which is absolutely under the control of the authorities. "The Code of Good Practice in Electoral Matters of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe states that this body should ensure equal proportional representation of all parliamentary factions and groups. This was also emphasized by the ambassadors of the G-7 countries in their resolution. This demand is also contained in the PACE resolution of January 25, 2018. This decision was achieved by many political forces. However, I know that Yulia Tymoshenko has achieved this. This is the case when I support it, because the implementation of this norm is one of the most important components of a transparent electoral process," he said.
Oleksandr Vilkul emphasized that, despite all the resolutions, 14 candidates of the CEC were included in 13 places. "Among them there is not one candidate from the OPPOSITION BLOC. Although we, according to a proportional principle, filed two candidates - Serhiy Rump and Hryhoriy Moskalenko. We demand adherence to the quota principle of the formation of the CEC," the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction emphasized.
