Commenting on the statement of the Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman that by the end of the current year the average salary in Ukraine will increase to UAH 10 thousand, the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC parliamentary faction Oleksandr Vilkul stressed that such “promises” of the authorities looked cynical against the background of record salary arrears. Thus, according to the results of six months of 2018, the amount of salary arrears reached UAH 2.7 billion.
“Salary arrears are growing like a snowball. The level of debt is now the same as in 2002. But instead of taking urgent measures to correct the situation, the government tells about non-existent achievements and draws beautiful figures. What wage growth can we talk about, if people do not receive their salaries?” Oleksandr Vilkul said.
According to him, in order to see real growth of salaries, which will not be eaten instantly by inflation, the economy should demonstrate development. "But this is not in the mention. And the untalented policy of the current government is still a miracle for the surviving industries. For the last 4 years (2014-2017-2010) industry has fallen by 20%, and commodity export – by 30%. Ukraine has not overcome the consequences of the crisis, and real wages have not reached the pre-crisis level,”the opposition politician said.
“Huge salary arrears just testify that the economy fevers. Until it is treated, we can only dream about the real increase in the level of wages. Every fourth working Ukrainian has incomes below the actual subsistence minimum,” the MP said.
“We can also add to this the constant growth of prices for the necessary products and goods, the planned increase in utility tariffs and hryvnia. The authorities make more and more of our compatriots to go abroad for working. But this is not the integration that the current authorities promised,” Oleksandr Vilkul emphasized.
He stressed that in order to rectify the situation it is necessary to take urgent measures to resuscitate and develop the economy, in particular – a package of draft laws on “New industrialization” developed by oppositionists. “Only by restarting the economy, giving the opportunity to the industry to work can create conditions for real wage growth and improve living standards. However, the current authorities deal only with building debts, openly stealing and exhaustioning the latest juices from citizens. Against this background, all their statements about salary increase seem to be at least vile and cynical,” the opposition politician summed up.
