The pension reform adopted by the pro-governmental coalition came into force on October 11, according to which the insurance period required for retirement was increased from 15 to 25 years in 2018, and to 35 years in 2028. This will increase the retirement age and deprive the pensions of millions of Ukrainians who do not have the necessary insurance experience.
Co-chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC fraction Oleksandr Vilkul noted: "Pension reform is a pure scam. Under the guise of allegedly raising pensions, which the government had to index, the authorities increased the length of their insurance experience and doomed millions of current and future pensioners to poverty. We all remember working conditions in the early 90’s, when people were forced to work without registration to feed their families. Many of them do not get the required length of experience, so that they now have to starve to death?".
Thus, the average unemployment rate for some years (1998-2000) was 11.6%, and for the 18-24 age group 25% - 25.7% (according to the International Labor Organization). However, even these official numbers, which are large, do not show the full scale of the problem of those years.
In addition, the record of insurance period in Ukraine is only from July 2000, so even formally working it will be difficult to submit documents from the former place of work for the period until 2000, since a significant part of the enterprises of the 90s has already disappeared. The risk group includes, first of all, agricultural workers, builders, market traders, self-employed persons, migrant workers.
The MP stressed that the OPPOSITION BLOC for three years systematically advocated for an increase in pensions in accordance with real inflation, but not on the principle of government "to take away from some people, and add to others "for three pennies".
"It is necessary to raise pensions at the expense of the working economy, creating new jobs and high salaries. Then there will be deductions to the Pension Fund, and then there will be decent pensions," he said.
In addition, the so-called current "modernization" of pensions will be instantly eaten up by inflation. "How can an old man live on a minimum pension, which the government raised from 1312 to 1452 UAH, if the utilities grew by several times, the prices for food and medicines increased more than 2 times (and pensions for four years were indexed by 38%)? Together with colleagues from the OPPOSITION BLOC, we will seek the abolition of the pension reform in its present form, in order to provide people with decent payments," the politician noted.
He also added that in the alternative draft budget-2018, developed by the opposition, it is proposed to increase pensions to 3.500 UAH. "And this can be done at the expense of the working economy and reduced funding for the maintenance of bloated apparatuses of state officials and law enforcement agencies," Oleksandr Vilkul summed up.
