This is the opinion of the deputy of the Zhytomyr Regional Council from the OPPOSITION BLOC Natalia Rybak.
Pensioners of Zhytomyr region in October have already begun to receive the first modernized pensions. Therefore, Natalia Rybak decided to check what an ordinary pensioner could buy for this money.
"What do pensioners spend on?" They in our region are almost 400 thousand, and this is a third of the total population? The lion’s share of the pension goes to pay for utilities, and still need to buy food and medicine. Frankly, for such miserable money healthy people will no longer, because to maintain the normal functioning of the body you need to eat well. Unfortunately, under the current government, this is impossible. In the government, the achievement is the increase in the minimum pension to 1452 UAH. Moreover, they promise that in October 5.4 million citizens will receive a surcharge of 200 UAH. We with pensioners went to the market to check, whether they felt growth of the incomes. Prices increase monthly and therefore these symbolic 200 UAH do not decide anything. Pensioners also remain beyond survival," Natalia Rybak said.
According to the deputy of the regional council, only in September in Zhytomyr region the main food products rose sharply. The price of eggs jumped by 35%, and bacon has risen in price by almost 10%. With such a price policy, meat and fish can only be dreamed of. In addition, the rent has risen by a quarter and the prices for medicines are constantly increasing.
"We are talking only about the Zhytomyr region, where the products of our local producers are sold on the markets. When we went into the meat pavilion, the sellers complained that there were fewer buyers, but they did not reduce prices for their goods. Similarly, despite a good harvest of cereals, our region remains the leader in Ukraine on the rise in bread prices. Over the past two years, it has risen in price by half. Now a loaf of white bread costs 11-15 UAH. Moreover, it is possible that it will again rise in price. That increase in pensions will only shake inflation. The effect of pension reform should be felt on the table and in the refrigerator, rather than wrapped up with the slogans of people who do not even know what kind of poor and unhappy our pensioners are. We were like the market, once again convinced that the criticism of the power of the OPPOSITION BLOC is constructive, and fully justified," Natalia Rybak added.
