The MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Natalia Korolevska stated this, commenting on the news that Ukrainian enterprises owe workers more than 2.72 billion hryvnias of wages.
“Only for the last month the amount of debt increased by 170 million hryvnias. Among the debtors are both bankrupt enterprises and economically active enterprises. The reason for this deplorable situation is that in recent years, each enterprise has experienced a significant increase in costs, especially for sky-high tariffs for energy resources. At the same time, incomes decrease due to the general economic decline. There is a situation when, after paying the tariffs, companies simply do not have the money to pay the employees in time,” the opposition vice-premier stressed.
Natalia Korolevska also noted that the salary arrears for the past three years increased by almost 40%. In this case, according to the experts, every fourth working Ukrainian is in the absolute poverty line, and the minimum salary in Ukraine is the lowest among the countries of Europe.
“Unfortunately, wage arrears are not the only problem. Today, every second family cannot independently pay utility services and is forced to apply for a subsidy. In the zone of special risk are pensioners and families with children, payments on which have sharply depreciated due to inflation and changes in the charging rules. People do not see the future in their country, so they go to work abroad, fleeing poverty, unemployment, collapsing infrastructure and lack of hope for a better tomorrow. This is a real social and economic catastrophe, to which the authorities simply close their eyes, writing off their failures to the war,” Natalia Korolevska summarized.
