The promise of the Minister of Finance to increase the minimum wage to 3723 hryvnia from 2018 and the subsistence minimum to 1,700 hryvnia are unprecedented generosity from the government, given the continuing inflation and a three-fold increase in prices. MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Natalia Korolevska stated this.
"The government demonstrates unprecedented generosity. First, they collapsed the economy, provoked an unprecedented inflation, a threefold increase in prices, and today they promise to increase wages. Arithmetic here is very simple. In 2014, Ukraine entered with the dollar exchange rate of 8 UAH. At the same time, both the subsistence minimum and the minimum wage were 152 dollars. After the increase promised by the Cabinet, the living wage will "grow" to 58 dollars, and the minimum wage will be up to 128 dollars, that is, it will not reach the pre-crisis level. Here is the whole "major repair of the country", said Natalia Korolevska.
According to her, today the government mantras on improving the quality of life of people are more like auto-training – attempts to inspire both themselves and people that "life is getting better".
"Everything the government is doing today is an unceasing showboating and practice of suggestion, when people in white speak red. Improvement of the quality of life and growth of incomes should be felt by people, not by the talk of politicians – this is what we need to work above all today: to restore the economy, revive industry, and create jobs. This is the only way to ensure a stable growth in the incomes of Ukrainian families, the country's economic strength and order in the social sphere," Natalia Korolevska said.
