The action of the OPPOSITION BLOC "Let's protect our common future!" started in Sumy region on Wednesday, October 11.
Within the framework of the action, a collection of signatures is held for the abolition of the anti-national educational reform. The main requirements of the Ukrainians: to ensure the constitutional right of tens of millions of citizens to study in their native language, to cancel 12-year schooling, to stop the dismissal of teachers and the closure of schools, to ensure a decent level of remuneration for pedagogical workers.
Also, the oppositionists want to prevent the reduction of the number of subjects in schools, to abolish the practice of limiting the number of supporting schools in united territorial communities and to determine the distance to the basic school not more than 15 km, to return the full state provision of technical education and state orders for workers in the professions.
The tents of the OPPOSITION BLOC are in all the major cities of Sumy region and during the first day more than one thousand signatures of the inhabitants of the region were collected. Those who support the opposition say that educational reform violates European standards.
The Chairman of the regional organization, the head of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction in the Sumy Regional Council, Oleksandr Strelchenko, believes that the current educational reform is a threat to the political stability of the state. "Education reform should be aimed at developing and modernizing the network of educational institutions, improving the quality of knowledge, increasing teachers’ salaries, and not turning Ukraine into a poorly educated country with cheap low-skilled labor that will be uncompetitive."
He sees the reason for such lack of talent for the law in the fact that such documents must be commissioned to write to professionals who do not confuse social issues with politics.
