The action "Give a Children's Book" takes place in Olevsk district of Zhytomyr region. It was initiated by the library staff of the local United Territorial Communities, who asked help to replenish the library book fund for the citizens of the district, deputies of local councils.
Among those who first responded to the request, was the Chairman of the Olevsk District Organization of the OPPOSITION BLOC, City Council Deputy Mykola Kharchenko, who allocated funds for the purchase of books.
"Times change, but the truth remains that people who are friends with the book, able to think, have better memory and creative imagination, better speak the language, are pleasant in communication, more critical, independent in their judgments and behavior. These are very important qualities for a modern person and they begin to form from early childhood. Therefore, in spite of all the problems that exist in our state, including with the financing of library institutions, the restoration of the book fund, we must not lose this line of work. Library workers of Olevsk came forward with good initiative and we eagerly supported it, because we see how creative and professional people are, who are looking for new interesting forms of working with the public and young readers. Our cooperation will continue to be successful in the future," Mykola Kharchenko stressed.
