Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC, Prime Minister of the Opposition Government, Borys Kolesnikov said this during a working visit to Dobropillya Donetsk region, where he visited the Dobropolska mine.
Commenting on Ukraine’s energy strategy until 2035, which was published on September 8, he noted that the coal industry had an important role to play in it. “The basic thesis of this doctrine is that there is no alternative to thermal energy. Earlier I already gave an example when they show Las Vegas and say: “Here are solar panels, wind farms. They are beautiful, but they get 2% of energy. “Then they show the same Thermal Power Station as we have, where 98% of the energy is produced. And this is in a modern city like Las Vegas! Therefore, for today, there is no alternative to thermal power engineering and the coal industry,” the politician stressed.
“Energy security is the basis of the country’s security. The whole world is now struggling for energy resources. If there is no energy - there will be no economy,” Borys Kolesnikov emphasized.
“To date, we do not manage a part of the territory of our country, everything is blocked. Instead of Ukrainians to earn coal, we spend our currency abroad, that is, we break the currency balance, which leads to the collapse of the hryvnia. We have a negative balance for the last three years. That is, coal is everything. It was 50 years ago, and I believe that this will happen in the next 20-30 years,” the opposition premier said.
Borys Kolesnikov also expressed confidence that the Dobropillya mine will develop. “The residents of Dobropillya will be with work and wages. With a coal reserve for 100 years, they will be confident in the future of the enterprise, and therefore in their future and the future of their children. This is very important,” he said.
